Capitol Resources Expands Presence in Florida with Tampa Office
(Tampa, FL) — Capitol Resources, LLC made a significant expansion in Tampa, Florida, with the hiring of longtime political operative and consultant Jon Coley. Coley has more than 30 years of experience in politics and most recently served as the president of Winning Edge Communications, a nationally recognized direct voter contact firm, serving political campaigns, national business associations and independent advocacy groups. Coley will operate out of Tampa and help the firm grow its lobbying business in Tallahassee and local Florida jurisdictions; plus, work hand-in-hand with the CR Communications team in building its operation throughout the firm’s nine-state footprint.
Capitol Resources continues to expand its influence across the South with 12 offices in nine states, plus Washington, D.C. This summer, the firm added a South Carolina office with the addition of Darrell Scott, and joined Dentons 50, a full-service, 50-state public policy and advocacy network. As one of the largest and most versatile state-based lobbying firms in the nation, the firm operates in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Coley is a Seasoned Communicator
Coley’s political career began in 1986 as a Local Programs Director for the Republican National Committee and later as a State Director for George H.W. Bush’s successful run for the White House. He then served as a political appointee at the United States Department of Energy and the USDA.
Since returning to the private sector in the early 1990’s, Coley has served as a political communications consultant, specializing in direct mail, grassroots advocacy and social media. He has worked with federal, statewide, mayoral and legislative candidates in more than 40 states. Coley was instrumental in the successful 2011 underdog victory of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and more than a dozen other municipal contests in the Southeast. He has also played a key role in electing governors and other statewide officials in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Indiana, New Mexico and Colorado. In addition, his expertise helped win Republican legislative majorities in Florida, North Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi for the first time in over 100 years. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Campaigns and Elections Magazine and almost every major newspaper in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and North Carolina.
“Coley and I have worked on many political campaigns; he is a brilliant operative and brings tremendous skills to our communications efforts,” said Henry Barbour, Capitol Resources managing partner. “Jon complements our firm’s existing partnership with Brewser Brown at the State Capitol in Tallahassee and gives us a seasoned pro to work with local jurisdictions in Florida. We are very excited about his ability to help us meet client needs.”
Coley has also used his indispensable, long-term relationships to maximize his grassroots and procurement lobbying efforts for Fortune 500 companies, European infrastructure services companies, professional sports teams and a host of other clients in the health care, infrastructure, retail, agriculture and transportation fields.
A graduate of Auburn University, Coley currently resides in Tampa with his wife and family.
